Commission on missing persons to restart in Abkhazia

As reported today at the events dated to the International Day of Missing Persons by Leonid Lakerbaya, first vice-premier of the republic, the government of Abkhazia will resume the work of the commission on missing persons.

Dolidze: Georgian authorities fail to address refugees' problems

Several families, evicted on August 13 from the hospital in Isani district, continue their hunger strike in front of the Ministry for the Matters of Refugees and Temporarily-Displaced Persons and Accommodation in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. On August 24, four of them sewed their mouths to show their commitment not to take food. In the opinion of Victor Dolidze, a deputy of the City Assembly of Tbilisi, the authorities are unable to solve refugees' problems.

Tbilisi Sakrebulo refused to take refugees' and traders' problems to consideration

At today's session, the deputies of the Tbilisi City Council - Sakrebulo - refused to put the issue to stop eviction of refugees from office buildings in the capital of Georgia and the problem of street traders on their official agenda.

Georgia threatens to arrest foreigners who visit Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The foreigners who visit Abkhazia and South Ossetia without permit of Georgian authorities will be exposed to criminal liability, once they appear in the territory of Georgia. This was stated today by Shota Utiashvili, official spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia. Today, it became known that citizens of Russia and Armenia are already behind bars in Georgia for illegal border crossing.

Protests against gay parade in Batumi

In the city of Batumi, Georgia, an action of opponents of the gay parade is held. The organizers of the protest action are the parishioners of the St Barbara Church, who call the local authorities to take into account the statement of the Patriarchy of Georgia and not to admit the gay parade in an Orthodox country. The city mayoralty says that they know nothing about the organizers, place and time of the gay parade.

Tbilisi: street traders create their professional league

The aim of the new league will be to fight for cancellation of the street trade ban. "To have the street trade ban cancelled, the league will use all the methods permissible within the bounds of the Constitution. We'll hold protest actions and file respective applications to the Sacrebulo (local government body), Public Prosecutor's Office and Parliament," Lasha Chkhartishvili, one of the leaders of the oppositional Conservative Party of Georgia, who helped to create the league, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Tsagareishvili demands Georgian authorities' report on money to repair refugees' houses

Georgi Tsagareishvili, an oppositional MP, has sent today requests to the Office of Public Prosecutor and the Ministry on Refugees' Matters and Accommodation demanding to hold investigation and present information on how the money was spent allocated to repair the housing blocks in Potskho village, where the forced migrants (refugees) evicted from privatized compact accomodation centres in Tbilisi, should move in.
